The Swiss-Star Oboe Knife - Swiss-Star Oboemesser - is a specialised m>Reed Knifeem> designed by Oboes.ch in collaboration with Wenger, and Klötzli of Switzerland. ~~It features two special blades, designed by oboists, specifically for reed maintenance.~~

This knife was distributed exclusively through Oboes.ch, and whilst it belongs to the Wenger 120/130mm Series, it is unlike any other in the series, due to its specialised purpose.

The top scale is the old advertising style with a large silver Swiss cross, and an light copper toned elephant illustration outlined in black in the printing panel. The blades are stamped with a serial number from the run (50/n) on the reverse side (centered); only 50 knives were made.
The Blue Sailor was produced in a special short run of only 50 knives in March 2011. Each of the knifes are numbered on the mainblade with a serial number from the run (n/50). This knife is a member of a special Blue Marlinspike Series>> that was produced between December 2010 and March 2011 for collectors.

The identifier 2223em> is taken from its early model number. This is one of a small number of models to include the marlinspike/sacking needle.
Since the 2010 special edition, this model is often referred to as the Victorinox Sea Pioneer.

Each knife had red and blue scales and the engraving panel is enscribed in Siamese with the 5th Rama (dynasty of the Chakri family). The blade is etched 2556 (2013 in the Gregorian calender) and nnn/150. The other side of the blade depicts an elephant and a picture of the king. The king's name Chulalongkorn the Great is printed in Siamese between the two images. He reigned from 1868 to 1910 and was known as the Great Reformer.

It was somewhat awkward (and dangerous!) to use - as it leaves a very sharp and ragged edge!

This was the very first of the Officer's Knives ('Offiziersmesser' in German) from Victorinox, originally known as Model 205, (which was later changed to be Model 234). Over the next 100+ years it spawned a whole family of models, as Victorinox added more and more toolsstrong> to their pocket knife. Between 1897 and the 1950s Victorinox produced many, many Officer's, pocket, trades and garden knife models - Several of which metamorphosed, over time, into the current 84mm, 91mm, and other families. Most of these older models are not individually featured in the SAKWiki pages, however they are viewable in the early catalogues here.
